July Reading Wrap-Up

July was a pretty good month for me - not only reading wise but just personally as well. I did some fun stuff with friends and my hubby was away so I had more house work and such to do. Here's my July TBR that I set up at the beginning of the month versus what it looks like today:

So because my reading relies a lot on my library and what is available, I ended up with a lot of different books on here than I had when I started, but that's all part of the library adventure! Here's what I did read this month:

Girl of Fire and Thorns - Rae Carson (DNF)

- I didn't finish this book. I found the religious undertones just too much for my taste.

The Black Tides of Heaven - Neon Yang (4.5 Stars)

- A gender diverse, bite-sized read.

The Sword of Summer - Rick Riordan (4 stars)

- A re-read for me - I actually did both the audiobook and the physical book at the same time, which was a new experience for me.

The Hammer of Thor - Rick Riordan (4 stars)

- I did the same thing for this, the second Magnus Chase book, as I did for the first one, and really enjoyed it.

Crooked Kingdom - Leigh Bardugo (4.5 stars)

- This is the second book in the Six of Crows duology and I ATE IT UP. I really loved it. I took off half a star because she killed someone off and I was mad.

The Ship of the Dead - Rick Riordan (4.5 stars)

- This is the third Magnus Chase book. It helped me have feelings when I was going through a rough spot this month.

The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue - V.E. Schwab (5 stars)

- I'm not crying, I'm cutting onions. You're crying.

Cinder - Marissa Meyer (4.5 stars)

- First book in the Lunar Chronicles - really interesting take on the traditional Cinderella story.

Shadow and Bone - Leigh Bardugo (4 stars)

- After reading Six of Crows I decided to get into the other books in the Grishaverse. This book was really interesting and I have started watching the Netflix series now as well, which combines the Grishaverse with Six of Crows.

The Final Empire (Mistborn, Book 1) - Brandon Sanderson (4 stars)

- A dense but enjoyable read. Looking forward to the next books in this series which are one my August list.

The Atlas Six - Olivie Blake (4 stars)

- Intriguing but a little slow sometimes.

Flamecaster - Cinda Williams Chima (3.5 stars)

- Not as impactful as other Cinda Williams Chima books, but still fun.

Legendborn - Tracey Deonn (5 stars)

- So, so good.

The Raven Boys - Maggie Stiefvater (5 stars)

- I loved this. I'm not usually one for paranormal fantasy but it was super fun.

Shadowcaster - Cinda Williams Chima (2.5 stars)

- Disappointing as a sequel.

The Dream Thieves - Maggie Stiefvater (4 stars)

- Second book in the Raven Cycle. Enjoyable, but not as good at the first book.

Stormcaster - Cinda Williams Chima (2.5 stars)

- Another disappointment. The book is called Stormcaster and yet no storms are cast.

Mythos - Stephen Fry (4 stars)

- A very fun listen. I feel like I have a much better understanding of Greek mythology now, and it was told in an engaging and relatable manner. Stephen Fry delivers again.

July was a fun month! August is looking heavy - I plan to finish the Mistborn series this month and start the Way of Kings, so it will be the month of Brandon Sanderson. I read the first Mistborn book this month, and it was dense but still easy to get through. I only assume that the books will get denser as we go along, like Tolkien, but now that I have a foundation I'm hoping I can finish the series this month.

Here's my August TBR:

See you next month to check in!
